The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Student Branch is a non-profit international organisation headquartered at New Jersey, USA. IEEE is renowned world wide for its excellent technical activities, publications, standards and products. IEEE encourages students to join the activities of IEEE through the IEEE Student Branches established in educational institutions of repute.

The IEEE Student Branch University of Hyderabad was formally inaugurated in the year 1995 by Padmasri Prof. B. L. Deekshatulu, Fellow of IEEE (former Director, National Remote Sensing Agency, Balanagar, Hyderabad). The aim of IEEE Student Branch University of Hyderabad is in developing technical awareness and leadership qualities by organising student activities such as giving seminars, inviting speakers, organising paper contests, technical tours etc. The IEEE student members get the following benefits: subscription to the award winning magazine IEEE Spectrum, free IEEE eMail account, low member prices on IEEE products, low member rates for technical conferences and ON-LINE services, etc.

The IEEE Student Branch University of Hyderabad has an IEEE Branch Library. The library is maintained by the IEEE student members. The library has several journals, proceedings, magazines, textbooks, project books, compact disks and video tapes for reference exclusively for student members.

The branch has presently many active members, mostly from School of Mathematics and Computer/Information Sciences and School of Physics. The active student members get recognition by the IEEE headquarters. The branch gets its intellectual and financial support from several sources such as the University, IEEE headquarters, Region, Section and Industry. The branch is supervised by a Branch Counsellor who is from the faculty and the activities are co-ordinated by the Branch Executive Committee which comprises of student members.
